Almost 15 years ago, Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire launched CAB Money – a self-help platform that won an Institute of Money Advisers Award for its innovation in putting practical debt tools directly into the hands of people who needed them most.
The need it was built to meet has never gone away. If anything, it has grown, with Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire resolving £2.7 million of debt last year.
Today, Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire announces the relaunch of that platform – reimagined, rebuilt from the ground up, and rebranded as My Budget Planner. Available now at mybudgetplanner.org.uk, the new site has been made possible through funding from the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) via its Debt Advice Modernisation funding stream.
My Budget Planner retains the practical, accessible tools that made CAB Money a success, while significantly expanding what the platform can do. Users are guided clearly through each step of understanding and improving their financial situation – with a budgeting calculator, a debt options assessment, a debt management plan builder, a subscriptions tracker and a jargon buster that demystifies the language around debt and money so that no one is left confused by the small print.
Crucially, the platform knows its limits. Built-in safety mechanisms monitor a user’s circumstances as they work through the tools, and where those circumstances look more complex, the platform steps in – encouraging the user to contact their local Citizens Advice for specialist, face-to-face support.
